Although Udogie’s return is a boost, Postecoglou does have a limited squad to choose from, one still missing Cristian Romero for two more games.

And the Tottenham manager is therefore expected to make three changes to his starting XI on Sunday.

Udogie’s return against Villa will likely see a like for like swap with Tottenham’s Emerson Royal – someone who could then be a candidate at centre-back.

Royal has previously stated his unease at being a substitute at Spurs, so surely wouldn’t be pleased to drop straight out of the side.

Since arriving at the club permanently following his £15m move the year before, Udogie has been sensational under Postecoglou.

And his perhaps naive sending off against Chelsea will have been a big learning curve.

Still only 20-years-old, Udogie seems to have huge potential – a full-back who is already thriving in an inverted role.

And alongside Pedro Porro on the right, Tottenham do now look to have their starting full-backs sorted for the foreseeable.

One position that isn’t so well covered is at centre-back.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite are said to be two key targets to add depth – but both would seem incredibly hard to sign in January.

Postecoglou’s side have also been credited with interest in Japanese centre-back Koki Machida, who is playing his football in Belgium.

And perhaps that may be a more feasible deal in January.

Either way, it will be a big boost for Tottenham to have Udogie back for Villa, a game that is a huge opportunity to make a statement after a testing few weeks.
