Tottenham now want to sign ‘magnificent’ Everton player in January after holding transfer meeting

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held a transfer meeting to discuss defensive targets this week and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is on their radar.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, with the outlet claiming Spurs could move for a new centre-back in January after Micky van de Ven’s injury.

Ange Postecoglou has been left alarmingly short in central defence, with Van de Ven sidelined until the new year and Cristian Romero suspended.

The Aussie boss was forced to name a makeshift backline against Wolves last time out as Eric Dier and Ben Davies started at centre-back.

Spurs are widely expected to dip into the market to bring in more quality depth in the position and it seems they are eyeing a move for Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite.

Spurs want Branthwaite

The Mail reports that Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Branthwaite are both on Tottenham’s radar.

It’s noted that Spurs held a meeting this week to discuss defenders they could look to sign in the winter transfer market.

It comes after Van de Ven picked up a hamstring injury against Chelsea earlier this month while Eric Dier’s contract is set to expire next summer.

Branthwaite has impressed under Sean Dyche this season, racking up 10 appearances in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has been lauded as a ‘magnificent’ defender by Alan Shearer.

He’s attracting interest from a host of top clubs after some eye-catching displays at Goodison Park, with Newcastle also said to be keen.

Yet, it would be a huge surprise to see Branthwaite leave Everton in January.

The Toffees face a battle to stay in the Premier League after being docked 10 points last week.

Everton have also opened fresh contract talks with the youngster and Spurs would likely have to pay big to lure him away from Merseyside.
