“Bad statement”Spur fans are so against the chairman over the statement he made on the last interview “Does it surprise you that he gets quite a lot of criticism?”

It’s fair to say that Daniel Levy isn’t the most popular figure at Tottenham.

The Spurs fanbase, quite simply, don’t like their chairman very much, and there have been plenty of calls for Levy to leave the club over the past 12 months.
Speaking on Kammy and Ben’s Proper Football Podcast, Harry Redknapp has been discussing Levy as his former manager, and he says that he doesn’t quite understand why Spurs fans are so against the chairman, pointing out that he has spent money on players while delivering a top class stadium and training ground.

Redknapp defends Levy

Redknapp spoke about the Tottenhamchairman.

“Does it surprise you that he gets quite a lot of criticism?”

“It does yeah, I don’t know really, he’s built a magnificent stadium. The best stadium in the world now. The training ground is out of this world. They’ve spent money every year, the last five years they’ve been in the top five spenders. He’s brought in top managers, I don’t know why he gets so much grief. I had no problems with him, he was good with me, I had no problems at all with Daniel Levy,” Redknapp said.

Easy to blame

Redknapp is right in that Levy has done a lot of good for Spurs over the past few years, but performances on the pitch haven’t been good enough, and the chairman is easy to blame.

Levy is the one constant that has been at the club throughout all of this instability, and when you’re the common denominator, you’re going to have the finger pointed at you a fair bit.

Realistically, Levy hasn’t done a bad job as Spurs chairman, but football fans are never going to be rational when their team are losing games and not performing as they would hope.
