NOTTINGHAM FOREST ARE CONFIDENT OF AGREEING OLA AINA DEAL AFTER MAN CITY NEWS

Nottingham Forest are confident of agreeing a new contract with reported Man City target Ola Aina, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

He has been in negotiations with Forest for an extended period and they are confident of tying him down to a long-term new agreement.

However, Man City have recently been linked with the right-back – with The Sun claiming (29 December) that Aina has been identified as a potential Kyle Walker replacement.

Interest from City could be tempting if they were to firm it up, but Forest could be in a position to offer him the chance to play in Europe next season – and even potentially in the Champions League.

Aina has become a key man for Forest since his arrival at the club last year (2023) on an initial one-year deal, which was extended by a further 12 months before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

He is a well-liked member of the dressing room at the City Ground and has seen off a host of competition in the full-back area to become the undisputed first choice at right-back.

Nottingham Forest confident Aina will stay despite Man City interest

The Nigeria international was named in Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher’s Team of the Season so far for the 2024-25 campaign on Tuesday (31 December).

He has made 19 appearances in the Premier League this term, notching two goals and playing the full 90 minutes in all but two games.

Aina can strike a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from Wednesday (1 January) but City would need to agree a transfer fee with Forest to sign the 40-cap international.

The ex-Chelsea star has helped Forest to second place in the table this term, while Pep Guardiola’s side sit sixth after recently struggling for form.
