Thomas Tuchel has admitted he has signed Eric Dier primarily to help a Bayern Munich teammate, but it’s not Harry Kane.
Dier has been reunited with England captain Kane, signing on a deal until the end of the season but with the option for another year.
The former Sporting CP man becomes the next player to move from Spurs to Bayern in less than a year and some fans have joked that the Bavarians have only bought him give Kane some company following his impressive, 25-goal exploits.
But Bayern boss Tuchel is delighted with the move, having been desperate for a player like Dier.
The 29-year-old is able to play in a number of positions but the former Chelsea admitted that he will be playing as a central defender in his system.
And the arrival of Dier is good news for Leon Goretzka, who has had to deputise due to injury problems.
As per The Mirror, Tuchel said: “He’s a specialist at centre-back. He has also played as a No. 6 in the Premier League but not for a long time.
“We’re getting him for the centre-back position. He can play right or left centre-back as well as in a back three.
“We got him mainly so Leon Goretzka can be free to play in midfield and doesn’t have to switch to centre-back any more.”
Dier takes the No.15 shirt and his switch to Bayern has materialised following Spurs’ £25 million capture of Radu Dragusin from Genoa.
Djed Spence has headed on loan to the Serie A outfit as part of the deal.
Dier is in line to make his debut against Hoffenheim on Friday night and could not hide his pride over becoming a Bayern player.
“This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day,”
