Brazilian giants Flamengo have made an enquiry to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham Hotspur this month.Spurs mean business in this transfer window, don’t they? Timo Werner is on his way to North London, as is Genoa’s Radu Dragusin after a full agreement was reached this morning. The focus could now be on outgoings, and Emerson is of interest.Flamengo make enquiry to sign Emerson Royal from TottenhamTottenham signed Emerson Royal from Barcelona in 2021 for just under £26 million (The Athletic).The Brazilian came in with a lot of hype two-and-half years ago, but his first two campaigns in North London were really underwhelming.Many were even calling for Emerson to be sold, but since Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival at Tottenham, the Brazilian has looked a lot better and has contributed across the backline.Now, Flamengo have added him to their wish list. The Brazilian side’s interest was reported a few days ago, and it has now been revealed they have made an official enquiry.Journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, however, is baffled about Flamengo’s move and has branded their approach as ‘pointless’ because it makes no sense.He said on S1 Live: “They made an enquiry to Emerson Royal, it wasn’t an offer. It’s a pointless enquiry. The guy is playing as a starter at Tottenham. Regardless of his performances under Diniz, that doesn’t mean he’s always going to be terrible. He’s in the Premier League and should be able to play at that level.“But it’s obvious that Flamengo aren’t going to take a player who has been a starter at Tottenham. I don’t know why they made that kind of enquiry.”Emerson is going nowhereThere’s just no way Tottenham will allow Emerson Royal to leave this month.The Brazilian isn’t just an option for Ange Postecoglou at right-back, but also on the opposite side and in the heart of the defence.He has improved a lot over the last few months, and it makes no sense at all to let him go in the middle of the season.In the summer, however, Emerson could well be moved on if Tottenham sign a replacement, but we don’t think he would be ready to return to Brazil to play for Flamengo just yet. He has plenty of years still left at the top level in Europe.
