MICKY VAN DE VEN DIDN’T HESITATE WHEN CHOOSING BETWEEN HEUNG MIN SON AND BRENNAN JOHNSON

Micky van de Ven has admitted Heung-min Son is one of the most difficult players to come up against in training at Tottenham Hotspur.

Not much has fazed Micky van de Ven since his summer switch from Wolfsburg.

The Dutchman has quickly established himself as a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s side and has arguably been one of the standout defenders in the Premier Leaguethis season.

Training alongside the likes of Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison is only likely to benefit the defender too.

And unsurprisingly, Van de Ven has admitted he has a tough time dealing with Tottenham’s captain, Son, in training.

Van de Ven on facing Son in Tottenham training

Speaking to Optus Sport, Van de Ven lauded Son as a ‘top class’ forward and feels the Spurs skipper leads by example at Hotspur Way.

“Yeah, [I rate him] really high,” he said. “Top class player also. As a captain, as a person on and off the pitch, on the pitch, he’s always the one who wants to lead the team.

“Off the pitch, he’s always thinking about football. Of course, you have some personal conversations with him also but he’s always thinking about football and on the pitch you see how class he is.

“His touches, his finishing, on the pitch he’s keeping up sharp and he always goes in front of the team.”

Van de Ven was then asked: “Is he one of the most difficult to come up against in training?”

“Yeah I think so, yes,” he responded.

It’s no real surprise to hear that Son is difficult to face in training as he’s one of the most feared forwards in world football.

The £22 million is capable of finishing off both feet and boasts an impressive burst of pace.

At 31, Son is showing no signs of slowing down as he continues to provide in the final third for Tottenham.

We’d certainly love to see Van de Ven and Son facing off in training, particularly with both players at the top of their game under Ange Postecoglou.
