28-year-old City star has been linked with a move away from Manchester City at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old has not been a regular starter for Pep Guardiola this season and he needs to move on in search of regular playing time.
Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has now urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign the defender at the end of the season.
“If I was Spurs, I’d go straight in for him. He’s so strong, good on the ball, quick – and can score goals from set pieces. He’s a very good centre-half who would probably start for most teams in the top six. He walks into a lot of those sides”, he said to Football Insider.
“He has been very unlucky to lose his place at Man City. Spurs need to upgrade their centre-backs, for sure. Laporte would be a no-brainer. Get him in alongside Jordan Pickford, and that would be a good start to their transfer window.”
It is no secret that Spurs will have to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer and Laporte could prove to be a quality acquisition.
The 28-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League and he has won multiple trophies during his time in England. He could be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.
Laporte is at the peak of his powers right now and the opportunity to play for another big club in England could be a tempting proposition for him.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham come forward with an offer for the defender in the coming weeks.
The north London giants have been quite vulnerable at the back this season and they will have to tighten up defensively in order to challenge for major trophies next season. Signing a quality centre-back should be a top priority for them.
Antonio Conte did well to address the lack of quality right-back with the signing of Pedro Porro before he left the club. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can bring in a reliable centre-back now.
