According to Alan Hutton, the possibility of Timo Werner moving to Tottenham permanently this summer may be ‘dead in the water’

“I thought he could have died in the water,” Hutton told Tottenham News
“Normally you would hear that now, especially if he has been there and had a very good end to the season or even if he has been a starter in the five or six months he has been here, which Sometimes he did
I think he can do more, he’s a bit inconsistent, especially in front of goal
“You would think that the two clubs or the club’s representatives would have had this conversation so the player would know what he was getting into at the start of pre-season
“But we haven’t really heard anything and things have kind of calmed down, which makes me think it’s not going to happen
“I’m sure if this was an area Tottenham were looking to strengthen then they would have other options and maybe they think this would be the best thing at the moment

Spurs are clearly keen to bring in new strikers this summer, with Postecoglou having admitted that he wants to refresh his squad at the end of the season after a disappointing end to the campaign
Players are expected to leave north London, with the likes of Richarlison and Son Heung-min already linked with an exit, but it seems Werner could be another star to make way place
Although there have been faint signs of the German’s quality during his loan spell this season, he has failed to display the ruthless form in front of goal that could push Spurs into the top four
It is possible that Postecoglou and Daniel Levy feel that the £15m allegedly spent on the 28-year-old could be better invested in alternative targets
