“I’m not happy,” one pundit, Mark Schwarzer, expresses his anger and disappointment over Tottenham’s win against Everton.

BBC pundit Mark Schwarzer feels Vitalii Mykolenko and Everton were ‘unfortunate’ at Tottenham Hotspur with an incident that denied the defender a chance to score.

The 24-year-old thought he had a chance to drag the Toffees back into their Premier League clash in north London. But two balls being on the field forced referee Stuart Attwell to bring play back. Everton ace Mykolenko also failed to work a good shot before Attwell stepped in.

Early goals from Richarlison (9’) and Son Heung-Min(18’) gifted Tottenham a strong lead at home to Everton on Saturday. Their goals also ensured Spurs have now scored in 30 straight home games. But Mykolenko might have slashed Everton’s deficit on the verge of half-time.

Attwell enraged Everton boss Sean Dyche when he brought the game back after seeing that there were two balls on the pitch at Tottenham. The Toffees advanced down the right-hand side of the pitch with promise before finding Mykolenko, who fired his ineligible strike wide.

It could have been Mykolenko’s third goal in 13 Premier League appearances this season on his return from injury. Dyche was without the left-back against Burnley last weekend due to a groin injury. It was the first time since September 2 that Everton did not have Mykolenko.

Mykolenko regained Dyche’s trust after starting this season on Everton’s bench with Ashley Young in favour. Thus, the 37-cap Ukraine international’s return from injury in north London marked a welcome return. A goal on his comeback would have also been the perfect return.

But former Fulham goalkeeper Schwarzer believes the second ball on the pitch at Tottenham would have put Mykolenko off his chance to get Everton back into the game. The defender’s previous goals in the Premier League this season came against Brighton and Crystal Palace.

“It’s really unfortunate for Everton,” Schwarzer said on BBC Radio 5 Live. “The ball is literally within half a metre of the second ball and Mykolenko couldn’t get the touch. He will certainly have been put off by that.”
