Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the driver’s seat to sign Manchester United target Jean-Clair Todibo, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo but it seems Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are now the favourites.
United were credited with an interest in the defender in the summer but due to Harry Maguire remaining at the club, after his move to West Ham United fell through, the funds could not be generated.
This season, the Frenchman has been outstanding for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Nice with the Ligue 1 side just five points off PSG at the summit of the division.
Todibo’s desire
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham are set to hold further talks with the defender’s representatives ahead of making a move in January.
Spurs defender Micky Van de Ven suffered a serious hamstring injury in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea which has forced the Lilywhites to explore the market for new defenders and Todibo looks to be the man they are targeting.
The London outfit have a lot of options on their shortlist to bring in but they are well aware that the Frenchman would be keen on joining Postecoglou’s side.
It is speculated that a fee of around £35 million would be enough for teams to sign the former Barcelona defender.
John Murtough flew into Saudi Arabia this week, according to a report from the Daily Mail, to try and raise funds to make signings in January.
You wonder if Todibo could be the man that they target but they may have to hurry up with Spurs making their move.
United’s defensive options
A whole host of centre-backs have been linked with a move to Old Trafford with Ten Hag looking for a new partner for Lisandro Martinez in the heart of the defence.
Raphael Varane’s future is uncertain, despite his mini-renaissance in the first team, and this has led to some of Europe’s best defensive options being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton, Goncalo Inacio from Sporting Lisbon, and Antonio Silva from SL Benfica are believed to be their top targets for the summer.
