“He is not good enough to play champions league” sports television pundit and co-commentator for ESPN Slam Tottenham Midfielder

Craig Burley has been critical of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and how he isn’t seemingly suited to Ange Postecoglou’s football at Tottenham.

The former Chelsea player added that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is yet to start a Premier League game this season, is someone who just ‘passes it sideways’, as he told ESPN.

t’s a new look Tottenham this season and a refreshed midfield that is tearing teams apart, even if they are still 1-0 down after 97 minutes – Paul Merson made an admission about Spurs after that win over Sheffield United.

James Maddison’s arrogance and attacking might has lifted a midfield that previously had no bite or flair to it.

Then two previously struggling stars – Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr – are rejuvenated and playing like what was said on the tin when they were first purchased.

That then leaves the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who started the EFL Cup defeat to Fulham, watching on from the sidelines.

Hojbjerg not good enough for Tottenham

“I have never been a huge fan of Hojbjerg,” said Burley. “I am just not. I think he runs around a lot. Passes it sideways, and then he was playing with Skipp.

“I think the personnel change, especially in midfield and the addition of Maddison, it’s just a huge difference.”

Does Hojbjerg have a future at Tottenham?

There was talk, in the summer, about the Denmark star possibly heading for the exit door, but despite the noise, he stayed put – it has been claimed that the dressing room is a little ‘awkward’ with him and two other players.

Given that Hojbjerg, unless there is an injury, is going to remain on the bench for the near future.

Then it wouldn’t be a surprise if that transfer door opens again during January and he leaves because it might also then allow Postecoglou to bring in a dynamic and more athletic midfielder to suit the football he wants to play.
