Rangers have been handed a timely Champions League boost with the news that Cyriel Dessers could be fit to face Club Brugge in next week’s play-off clash.
The Nigerian striker was forced off in the second half of Tuesday’s qualifier against Viktoria Plzen with what initially looked like a worrying knee injury.
With Hamza Igamane only just returning from a knock that sidelined him since last month, Russell Martin’s attacking options are already limited to just Brazilian forward Danilo as another recognised striker.
However, speaking after the match, head coach Martin eased fans’ fears:
> “Cyriel is not as bad as everyone feared. Tomorrow will be too early, but we’re hopeful he can be involved on Tuesday.
I think everyone feared the worst with the way he went off, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it could have been. He’s a bit stiff and sore, but we’ll work hard to give him every chance to be fit for Tuesday.”
Rangers will be hoping Dessers is ready to lead the line as they look to secure their place in the Champions League group stage.
