Rangers fans are feeling frustrated and anxious following the injury blow to one of their key players ahead of an important clash against Celtic. The news of the player’s injury has added an extra layer of tension and concern to an already highly-anticipated match between the fierce rivals.
Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland will miss the Old Firm derby against Celtic after reportedly being admitted to hospital. The former England international is said to have been placed in medical care after suffering a ‘significant internal bleed’ on New Year’s Eve.
The Herald claims that Butland was admitted to hospital but he has now been released. The 31-year-old will now miss tomorrow’s Old Firm clash between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox. Sky Sports say Butland is ‘devastated’ to be absent.
The Rangers Review understands the nine-times capped for England keeper was admitted with what a source describes as a “significant internal bleed”.
The 31-year-old missed was forced to spend the night under medical care before being released today – but will not be fit to take his place in between the sticks at Ibrox.
Butland, who was heavily criticised for his showing in the 2-2 Boxing Day draw with Motherwell is understood to be devastated to have to sit out the derby.
And that means summer signing Liam Kelly will take his place in nets for only his second appearance for the Light Blues since signing in the summer.
Kelly, a graduate of the Rangers youth system who took a meandering route back to the club via the likes of QPR and Motherwell, kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Dundee earlier this month after Butland pulled out of the match when his wife went into labour.
Talking to the media after the appearance, he said: “It felt unbelievable. I’ve been at Rangers a long, long time.
“It was 20 years ago that I first walked through the gates of the training centre. So, that’s what I’ve waited for the majority of my life.
“I’m over the moon, I got a clean sheet and a victory. That’s why I signed, in case I was ever called upon.”
The player in question, whose importance to the team cannot be overstated, has been instrumental in Rangers’ recent success and has earned a special place in the hearts of the fans. His absence due to injury is a significant setback for the team, especially as they prepare to face off against their arch-rivals in a crucial match that could have far-reaching implications for the season.
Fans are worried about how the team will cope without the player’s presence on the pitch, both in terms of their performance and their chances of securing a positive result against Celtic. The injury blow has left supporters feeling frustrated and uncertain about the outcome of the match, as they had been counting on the player to make a difference in such a high-stakes game.
Despite the disappointment and frustration, Rangers fans are rallying behind the team and showing their unwavering support as they prepare to face Celtic. The injury setback has only strengthened their resolve and determination to see their team overcome the challenges ahead and emerge victorious in one of the most important fixtures of the season.
As the match draws closer, the mood among Rangers fans is a mix of nervousness, anticipation, and hope for a positive outcome, despite the unfortunate injury blow that has cast a shadow over the upcoming clash against Celtic. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed and holding onto the belief that the team can rise to the occasion and deliver a performance worthy of their support.
