Former Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique, has reportedly identified Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as his first signing for Paris Saint-Germain once he becomes their new head coach.
The Citizens have already seen one of their midfielders wave goodbye to the Etihad Stadium and move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer, with Ilkay Gundogan joining Barcelona as a free agent.
Now though, the Manchester club could be set to lose another one of their key players to a different European side in the coming weeks.
According to a recent report from 90 Min, Enrique is on the verge of being named as the new manager of PSG and has already decided that his first port of call will be to make a move to sign Silva from City.
The report also adds that during Enrique’s negotiations with the French club, PSG’s interest in Silva was discussed and that the Spaniard has given the green light to a bid being launched for the City midfielder.
It was claimed back in May that the Ligue 1 side see the 28-year-old as an ideal replacement for Lionel Messi, who brought an end to his time in Paris at the end of last season.
Last season saw the Portuguese international, who has been hailed for his “phenomenal” performances in the past by journalist Henry Winter, feature in 55 games for Pep Guardiola’s side, which shows how important he was for the team in their treble-winning campaign.
In fact, Silva played every minute of Champions League action between the knockout stage and the final, scoring vital goals against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and Real Madrid in the semis.
With that in mind, we think City should resist any offer that comes their way from PSG and Enrique and do their best to convince the player to stay where he is and help them regain the three titles they lifted last season.
