There is a sense of uncertainty when it comes to Alexander Isak and his Newcastle United future.
Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever has a contract at St James’ Park until 2028, but the Magpies had held talks to extend that deal.

However, those talks are now on hold. Eddie Howe has stated that Isak’s contract is not a short-term issue, given the time remaining on his current deal.
While that is the public line coming out of the club, it had previously been reported that Newcastle’s priority was to extend Isak’s contract.
That plan has seemingly changed, with Isak’s camp not happy about the situation.

That is according to TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey, who recently reported that the 25-year-old’s representatives have been shocked by Newcastle’s stance.
Bailey has now spoken to Geordie Boot Boys in more detail about the situation, insisting that Isak certainly is not unhappy at St James’ Park despite the situation regarding his contract.
I don’t think it’s massively different from what is being said elsewhere,” he said.
“It all stemmed from when Eddie Howe came out and said it was not a short-term problem because he’s under contract.
“It was a strange juxtaposition, as Newcastle had just announced the Anthony Gordon deal. I thought it played out quite weird in the press.
“At no point am I saying that Isak is unhappy at Newcastle. But the situation has shocked his representatives in the way that they played out. We know they had been in talks with Newcastle since April about a new deal.”
‘Big six’ interest in Alexander Isak
With Isak still having three-and-a-half years left on his current deal, there is not an immediate threat to his future at Newcastle United.
However, Bailey has stated that there is certainly interest in Isak’s signature from some of the Premier League’s ‘big six’.
“He really is a player of interest to the likes Arsenal and Chelsea,” he said.
“Manchester City and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the situation. Everyone knows how good he is. He is one of the Premier League’s best.”
Champions League could impact Isak’s Newcastle United future
This contract speculation is far from ideal, but the biggest deciding factor over Isak’s immediate future at St James’ Park could be Champions League qualification.
Bailey has insisted that Newcastle should be doing everything they can to retain the services of Isak, but it may boil down to whether or not the Magpies can finish in the top four this season and return to the Champions League.
“In my personal opinion, Newcastle are playing a dangerous game if they want to keep him at St James’ Park,” he said.
“They should be moving heaven and earth to tie Isak down to a new deal. It should be their next major priority.
“If Newcastle come back to the table with an acceptable offer, it might get done. Isak is not unhappy. But as we have alluded to as well, Champions League football is also a major thing for him. He believes he is one of the best strikers in the world at the moment, and he probably is.”
It has been reported that Isak could leave if Newcastle do not qualify for the Champions League, which makes it even more essential that Eddie Howe’s side climb up the Premier League table.
