Richarlison has been a mixed bag during his time as a Tottenham Hotspur player as he is yet to convince critics of his qualities.
There is no doubt the 27-year-old struggled in his debut campaign at Spurs, scoring only one Premier League goal, before improving last term by netting 11 goals from 28 matches.
But Tottenham have secured the signing of Dominic Solanke and it now puts more pressure on Richarlison to perform.
You could argue that Solanke and Son Heung-min are ahead of the Brazil star for that number nine spot, with his Spurs captain also ahead of him when playing on the left.
Perhaps it’s the kick up the backside he needs because some fans are debating whether or not to sell the player this summer and then use that money to enhance the squad elsewhere.
Sources have told HITC about Richarlison’s stance on leaving Tottenham, with Solanke now through the door and Saudi Arabia also knocking.
During the past few years, everyone has seen the money Saudi are offering players with some accepting it without hesitation and others reluctantly saying no.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne turned down the chance to join a Saudi team and now Richarlison has done the same.
Simon Jordan stated that the Tottenham star’s actions are to be ‘admired’ and it proves that he wants to be a ‘top player’, as he told talkSPORT.
Richarlison turns down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia
“I don’t believe Richarlison was signed by Postecoglou, anyway, so he isn’t his player, so there maybe that’s going on,” said Jordan.
“But the boy is 27 years of age. What we should be saying is ‘well done you for not wanting to go and make it all about money’. You have got a 27-year-old senior pro being offered a big bag of money and saying, ‘I want to be a top player’.
“We can all debate whether he is good enough for Tottenham Hotspur, and that’s just an opinion, neither am I (right or wrong). But I think it’s admirable that he doesn’t want to go to Saudi because he wants to play in elite football and play for Brazil.”
Dominic Solanke to start for Tottenham
Tottenham paid a club-record transfer for Solanke, just like they did when they brought in Richarlison from Everton.
Solanke isn’t here to warm the bench, but to start, so it means a place on the bench for the former Watford man.
You wonder if the duo could probably play together because this is do or die for their versatile South American forward.
The noises of Spurs needing to sell Richarlison will begin pretty much straightaway if he starts the new Premier League campaign poorly.
