Chris Sutton hit out at Hamza Igamane as Rangers played out a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday.
Rangers will be disappointed with themselves after they failed to defend a one-goal lead against the Hoops at home in the final Old Firm derby of the season on 4 May.
Cyriel Dessers put Barry Ferguson’s side in front just before half-time, but Adam Idah’s 57th-minute goal saw the team share the spoils on this occasion.
Although Nick Walsh only dished out two yellow cards, the game was not short of drama, with Ianis Hagi certain that he should have had a penalty for a challenge from Callum McGregor.
The match also had a few underwhelming performances from players, including Igamane.
Sutton and Scott Arfield slam Igamane
Igamane was on the pitch for a total of 30 minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 66th minute, but failed to make a significant impact.
Sutton was quick to pick up on the Morocco international’s lacklustre performance, pointing out how ‘lazy’ he was at defending from the front at one point.
The Sky Sports pundit insisted that it is a ‘simple principle’ for a player to come ball-side when defending, but was disappointed to see Igamane fail to follow it.
“That’s just lazy, Igamane”, Sutton said on Sky Sports Football (4 May, 1:53 pm).
“He’s got to just work. Simple principle, work hard to get back on the side of the ball.”
Scott Arfield was in agreement with Sutton, admitting that strikers being lazy to defend drives him crazy.
“You’re absolutely spot on”, Arfield said.
“One thing that, as a player, drives me crazy is the laziness of a striker.”
Rangers woes continue
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Rangers are now winless in their last six games across all competitions, with their last victory coming against Dundee in March.
Furthermore, Ferguson is yet to win at Ibrox as the Light Blues boss. The Light Blues have lost three and drawn two of their last five home matches.
Therefore, the Premiership heavyweights are ending the season on a form that is reflective of the disastrous season they have had.
As for Ferguson, he appears to have lost any hope of making the manager job at Rangers his own.
