Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has voiced his concerns over Spurs winger Timo Werner, noting the German’s underwhelming performances under manager Ange Postecoglou.
While Tottenham’s overall attacking play has been promising, particularly with Brennan Johnson excelling on the right wing, Werner’s difficulties on the left have been hard to ignore.
Redknapp specifically praised Johnson’s recent form, pointing out that the Welsh winger has netted goals in six consecutive matches, successfully silencing critics.
In contrast, Redknapp expressed disappointment with Werner’s contribution, admitting that the wide forward has not lived up to expectations. He remarked that Werner’s performances haven’t been as impactful or exciting, especially when compared to his teammate on the opposite flank.

During that match, Spurs collapsed in the second half after taking a two-goal lead, struggling to cope with pressure. Speaking to talkSPORT, Redknapp said:
“He (Johnson) has done well, he came in for a little bit of stick recently.
“Since then, he has answered the critics with six consecutive goals. It’s been great for him.
“But I am not sure about the boy on the other side (Werner). He doesn’t excite me, I must be truthful. If you go through that team, it’s such an open team. They are going to have days where you go ‘oh, how fantastic are they’, but they are going to have halves of games like Brighton where they can’t handle the pressure.”
Werner’s struggles in front of goal have become increasingly worrying, as he has missed crucial chances in recent fixtures. In addition to wasting two 1v1 opportunities against Manchester United, the German forward also squandered a clear chance in Tottenham’s Europa League match against Ferencvárosi.
Having made eight appearances this season without finding the net, Werner’s position in the starting XI is under threat. There are calls for him to be dropped for 17-year-old Mikey Moore, a sentiment shared by Tottenham fans who chanted Moore’s name after Werner’s wasted chances against Manchester United.
