Bowen does a lot of things exceptionally well, but he’s not a natural leader. However, I digress…
Overall, the 27-year-old has proven to be a sensational signing for the Hammers, since he moved to the London Stadium from Hull City in January 2020.
£20 million for a player with his quality is an absolute steal, and he recently suggested that he wants to remain at West Ham for the rest of his career.
Bowen has bagged 63 goals and 41 assists in 211 games for the Hammers in all competitions.
Those numbers are exceptional but in fairness, he hasn’t been great for us this season, and that’s why his celebration on Saturday was rather surprising to see.
Reason behind Jarrod Bowen’s gesture to West Ham fans
Bowen was instrumental in our vitally important 4-1 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.
He registered two assists and scored our all important third goal against the Tractor Boys.
However, following his striker, he mimicked people talking by cupping his hand and moving his fingers up and down.
So why did he do it?
According to The Athletic, Bowen did the ‘keep talking’ gesture in response to the criticism the team has faced this season.
Well, if that was the case, I actually find it quite offensive from Jarrod.
Bowen surely accepts criticism has been fair
The Hammers have been awful in the Premier League this season, aside from the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town of course.
The criticism that Jarrod Bowen and his West Ham teammates have received has been more than deserved, there’s no doubt about that.
If the 27-year-old is going to send a message to the fans and pundits like the one he did on Saturday, he had better be prepared to accept criticism from the fans if he and his teammates don’t produce the goods this season.
Jarrod Bowen has been great for West Ham over the past four-and-a-half years or so.
However, he would do well to focus entirely on his football now, rather than noise coming from both inside and outside of the London Stadium.
