Carragher spotted a worrying pattern for Tottenham when they take the lead in matches under Ange Postecoglou.
Disastrous second half against Brighton
A lot of the good work that Tottenham have done over the last few weeks was undone by an extremely poor 20 minutes at the start of the second half against Brighton.
Not only did the Lilywhites concede three poor goals but they struggled to muster up any sort of response, looking helpless as the Seagulls flooded forward with numbers.
It is the sort of performance that showed that Spurs still have a long way to go before they can have ambitions about competing with the best sides in the Premier League.

That second-half performance at the Amex appeared to come out of nowhere, given how much control Tottenham have had over their games this season.
However, carragher pointed out that we saw a similar pattern from Spurs away from home last season as they struggled to show any kind of threat on the counter-attack while having the lead.
Jamie carragher, is fuming after the shocking 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
He called it the worst defeat since the history of Spurs, and rightfully so, considering they were leading 2-0 at halftime. The team’s second-half performance was unacceptable, with Brighton scoring three goals in just 20 minutes to seal the comeback.
He wrote: ‘Something that happened yesterday as well for Spurs that’s happened a few times under Ange is in away games creating nothing in the 2nd half having been ahead. Wolves, Everton, West Ham last season eg. They seem to struggle to retain a threat on the counter when leading sometimes.’
Postecoglou takes responsibility
Postecoglou admitted in his post-match press conference that the performance from his side in the second-half was unacceptable, stating that he saw a drop off in intensity.
However, rather than throwing his players under the bus, the Tottenham boss accepted responsibility for the result and insisted that he will try to ensure it does not happen again.
He told Football.London: “It’s unacceptable at the end of the day. You can kind of understand that you’re not going to win every game. But there’s the manner you lose games. And that’s the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve lost the game in that manner. And like I said, unacceptable.”
When asked what he can do about it, he responded: “There’s a lot I can do about it. That’s why I’m in the role. If I couldn’t do anything about it I’d get somebody else to sit here.”

Amanda Staveley ‘Ready’ to Invest in Tottenham
A report from the Daily Mirror arose just over a week ago, claiming that Staveley was ready to get back into the English top-flight by investing in Tottenham by the end of the year – similar to how she did at Newcastle back in autumn 2021.
Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi brokered the £305million takeover of Newcastle around three years ago, but their departure from St. James’ Park means that they have now ‘entered’ advanced talks to buy a decent stake in the north London side.
Tottenham are looking for new money, and Staveley’s consortium with Ghodoussi means that they are expected to buy shares from Joe Lewis, who has a declining influence on Tottenham, though she will turn to the Middle East once again for financial backing after doing so with Newcastle.
Jacobs: Staveley Has Two Potential Takeover Avenues
Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs stated that Staveley would have two avenues to go down in terms of investing in the club – admitting that joining the club in a similar way to how Liverpool’s owners FSG currently operate may be the best strategy at present. Jacobs said:
“Staveley is quite interesting, because if we again remember that first and foremost she’s a broker, for any stake she takes in a club she would always have the capacity to find other investors or scale up an investment because of her network. So this is the key thing that we have to understand with Tottenham at the moment.
“Is Daniel Levy going to entertain somebody that might buy small now without much practical or day-to-day say, but wants bigger responsibility, or stake, or other partners to come in the future?
“Or is this more like an FSG investment – surrounding a small minority stake to a more silent, strategic investor to allow the club to be on a firm financial footing – but to be run in the same way as it is now?
“And at the moment, I’m told it’s the latter.”
Tottenham Investment Could Massively Bolster Them
Tottenham have always naturally been the most prudent-spending side in the ‘Big Six’ in the Premier League, and especially with Newcastle and Aston Villa having spent big in recent years, the north London side do need investment if they are to keep up with the bigger sides in the Premier League.
Daniel Levy is known for eking out a beneficial deal for himself, and so Staveley will have to pay up if she is to acquire stakes in Tottenham – but investment in the same way that she did at Newcastle will only benefit the club in the future.
