Crystal Palace are said to have sounded out David Moyes in the event they decided to cut ties with Oliver Glasner. The Austrian boss has experienced a tough 2024/25 campaign thus far, which may have come as a surprise given how well the Eagles performed last campaign once Glasner walked through the door.
Palace currently find themselves winless and sitting inside the bottom three after a lot of hype was around them during pre-season. Steve Parish saw Michael Olise leave for Bayern Munich, Marc Guehi attracted strong interest from Newcastle United and Glasner himself, was wanted by the Bavarian giants before Vincent Kompany got the job.
Crystal Palace looking at potential Oliver Glasner replacements
The Eagles were perhaps seen as dark horses in the Premier League to cause some shockwaves amongst the elite clubs this season. They’d managed to go unbeaten last season under Glasner and also kept hold of Eberechi Eze and Guehi, as well as adding some talented youngsters.
However, the tide has quickly turned at Selhurst Park with Glasner’s men winless, conceding nine goals in six games and facing an uncertain future. Despite Parish slapping a £100 million price tag on Glasner’s head amidst Bayern’s earlier interest, he may now be tempted to sack the Austrian.
According to Hammers News, Moyes – who’s been linked with a return to Everton – is a serious candidate to take up the hot seat at Selhurst Park. While there are currently no suggestion that Palace are going to sack Glasner imminently, the Scottish coach is someone to keep an eye on.
David Moyes to manage Palace?
It would be a sensational turn of events if Glasner was to be replaced by Moyes. The Austrian was so popular last season among the fans at Selhurst Park, so for him to be sacked in favour of Moeys who was let go by West Ham in the summer may be seen as a huge risk.
However, if the Eagles continue to linger around the bottom three and fail to win games, there may be no choice but to part ways. The fact that Palace lost to Everton despite taking the lead last week says a lot about their mentality and how frail the squad’s confidence appears to be right now.
Moyes has done wonders at clubs before dragging West Ham from relegation contenders to European champions. So, while his appointment may not grab the headlines as a young coach in the game, he knows how to make teams difficult to beat while also getting the best out of young talent.
