Tottenham Hotspur host Brentford in the Premier League as they aim to return to winning ways in the competition after losing the North London derby to Arsenal.
Spurs were simply not good enough against their local rivals as they suffered defeat at home but restored some pride a few days later as they recorded a 2-1 comeback win against Coventry City in the EFL Cup.
nge Postecoglou’s side have picked up just four points out of a possible 12 and are set to come up against a Brentford side that has performed fairly well this season.
Ahead of the game on Saturday, Paul Merson believes Tottenham can take advantage of Yoane Wissa’s injury absence to secure a much-needed win.
Paul Merson feels Tottenham will get all three points
The 28-year-old has been in flying form this season but is set to be out of action for two months after picking up an ankle injury.
Merson feels Tottenham flattered to deceive against Arsenal and were also fortunate to secure a late winner against Coventry. However, with Wissa set to miss the game, he feels Spurs will just about get the job done.
“I was very disappointed with Tottenham last week and they were also fortunate to go through to the next round of the Carabao Cup,” Merson wrote in his column for Sportskeeda.
“I’d have really fancied Brentford to get the win here, but Yoane Wissa will be a massive miss for them. That injury to him is a huge loss for Brentford.
“Without Wissa in that team, I’d back Tottenham to beat Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo on his own won’t be enough to beat Spurs.”
With Postecoglou under pressure to turn things around after an underwhelming start to the new season, Merson feels Spurs will show up at home to record a narrow 2-1 win.
He continued: “Ange Postecoglou has to win this match to take some pressure off him. Spurs are in a little league of their own and how they perform against the teams in that group will define their season.
“The defeat to Arsenal would have hurt them badly considering the magnitude of the fixture, but they have to put that behind them and get the win against Brentford.”
Tottenham need a win to ease the pressure
Tottenham are already under serious pressure as results have simply not gone their way this season.
Postecoglou privately told his players to trust him after the defeat to Arsenal, but in the coming weeks, results will have to do the taking for his position to not come under scrutiny from fans and pundits.
Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Postecoglou is not under any pressure of facing the sack yet, which is a sign that the Spurs hierarchy still have a lot of faith in him to turn things around.
Tottenham Hotspur take on Brentford in the Premier League at the weekend and they will look to bounce back from the defeat against Arsenal in the North London Derby last time out.
They will be desperate to secure Champions League qualification this season and they need to win these games in order to finish in the top four. Brentford are a quality team and Tottenham cannot afford to be complacent. They will have to raise their performance levels in order to win the game.
Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson has now predicted that Tottenham should be able to win the game. The popular pundit explained that he would have fancied Brentford to win against Tottenham had Yoane Wissa stayed fit.
