Tottenham to terminate Sergio Reguilón contract as payoff discussions are speculated

Bryan King has urged Tottenham to agree a payoff fee with Sergio Reguilón to release the Spainaird from his contract in North London.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the 27-year-old is not in Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans.

As per the club’s official website (22 July), Reguilón was left out of Spurs’ pre-season tour “to explore prospective transfer opportunities”.

However, the left-back is yet to find a new club, with the transfer window set to shut on Friday (30 August).

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes more drastic measures might need to be taken.

They need to either pay him up or sell him as quickly as possible,” King said.
Reguilón is not in Postecoglou’s first-team plans, that is for sure. Therefore, it might be time to sit down and talk with the defender and his agent and come up with a deal if nobody is interested.

What you don’t want is him sat around for a year doing nothing. If he has got anything about him, he won’t want to be sat around either, regardless of whether or not he is earning £100,000-per-week.

He is still at an age where there is a future in the game for him. Get a deal done, and get playing.”

Tottenham to agree payoff fee with Sergio Reguilón?

Not much concrete interest has emerged in Reguilón. That will therefore come as a concern to Daniel Levy with such little time left in the transfer window.

Reguilón has no future at Tottenham, and with just one year left on his deal, the club need to find a solution

They won’t want to pay big wages to a player who isn’t going to feature. As a result, agreeing a payoff – similar to the one which was agreed with Tanguy Ndombele – might be wise.

However, it will be down to the player if he wants to accept or not, with time running out for both parties.

In other Tottenham news, one player’s future at the club is hanging in the balance after an “incredible” turn of events.

Giovani Lo Celso is poised to leave Tottenham after struggling for playing time under Ange Postecoglou.

Lo Celso’s future has been uncertain since the start of the transfer window. Despite playing a part in Argentina’s Copa America win, the attacking midfielder is not in plans of Tottenham going ahead and according to a report from Estadio Deportivo, the Argentine international is all set to part ways with the club on the back of Ange Postecoglou’s unfulfilled promise from last season.

Lo Celso was expected to be on the move last summer after having spent 18 months out on loan but the Australian manager wanted him around and promised him enough minutes. But, he couldn’t deliver as the 28-year-old was involved in 24 matches but he was on the pitch for less than 600 minutes.

After having struggled for minutes last season, Lo Celso is pushing hard to leave the club. With his contract running out, Tottenham are also ready to sanction his departure. But, nothing concrete has happened so far.

Meanwhile, he has been left out of the Spurs squad for the opening fixtures of the season despite being fully fit and as confirmed by those close to the player, the club and the player are no longer on the same page.

While he was linked with a move to Aston Villa, it hasn’t gone through and according to the report, the Argentine has practically decided that his time in England is over. He is on the lookout for an ideal destination for himself but is not looking to return to his homeland yet. He wants to continue in Europe with Spain being the preferred destination.
