West Ham’s new striker Niclas Fullkrug is looking forward to playing with a Hammer who is “the best in the world” at his speciality.
Although there are reservations about his age, there’s no doubt that Niclas Fullkrug is the type of striker who, on paper, should score plenty with the creative players he will have around him at West Ham.
While he admits he is not the sort of player who can go and dribble through a defence, if you can play to his strengths he will find the back of the net. All Lopetegui has to do is coach the players into making sure they deliver the ball into the areas he gets himself into.
As a result, it should come as no surprise that the German is so excited about the prospect of playing the squad, but he has highlighted two players in particular as ones he looks forward to working with.
“I think one of my biggest qualities is scoring goals, and the fact I am able to score with my left foot, right foot, and also my aerial ability. I hope for a lot of crosses. I think we have a lot of good players on the pitch. We have Emerson, who runs up and down the line all the time, and James [Ward-Prowse], who has the best set pieces in the world. I’m very excited for the season ahead.“
The idea of Fullkrug getting on the end of a Ward-Prowse set piece is what dreams are made of. Hopefully it’s something we get to see plenty of over the coming season.
