Tottenham Hotspur may have just taken a significant step forward in plans to deliver Ange Postecoglou a new striker this summer.

Right now, Spurs don’t have the necessary firepower to accompany Son Heung-min, who is shouldering a lot of the side’s goalscoring.

Last term, Son scored 19 goals in the Premier League, with Richarlison (11) and Dejan Kulusevski (eight) in second and third place for Tottenham.

Alejo Veliz is close to leaving Tottenham on loan for Espanyol, and whilst the 20-year-old was never going to play a significant role this season, all the pieces are falling in place for a new arrival.

That being said, journalist Fabrizio Romano has just shared a significant update regarding Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham have been pushing to sign Solanke of late, with Postecoglou believing that the Englishman is the right fit for his front three.

And although Bournemouth are hoping to keep Solanke, Romano has just declared that the striker is ready to say yes to Spurs.

Dominic Solanke has given ‘green light’ to leaving Bournemouth for Tottenham

Sharing his update on X, Romano said that Tottenham were pushing to sign ‘world-class’ Solanke and that talks had begun.

But most significantly, the journalist shared that Solanke had given the ‘green light’ towards a move to north London – an important step for Spurs.

Romano shared: “Understand Tottenham are pushing to get Dominic Solanke deal done, talks underway with Bournemouth.

Solanke has given the green light to Spurs as negotiations are ongoing to find an agreement.

“Tottenham want Solanke, as exclusively revealed last week.”

Tottenham fans will now hope that the club won’t struggle to agree personal terms with Solanke, who is evidently ready to agree a deal.

But perhaps the biggest stumbling block will be Solanke’s £65m release clause – will Spurs consider the price tag good value?

For a similar price, Tottenham may be able to chase a deal for a striker like Viktor Gyokeres, who has a remarkable scoring record in Portugal.

Some may feel that 26-year-old Solanke is a better fit for Postecoglou, incredibly effective in his pressing.

But there will also be Tottenham fans who believe that Gyokeres, or another big name, could be a more ambitious option.

Steven Bergwijn could reportedly return to England just two years after the Dutch international left Tottenham to sign for Ajax.

The 26-year-old forward was sold by Antonio Conte in 2022 with returning to the Netherlands to join Ajax, where the former PSV Eindhoven star has impressed in the last two seasons with the Amsterdam giants.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Steven Bergwijn could leave Ajax in the final weeks of the transfer window with several clubs showing interest. Leicester City approached Ajax to ask for conditions of the deal in the recent days.”

With 13 goals and five assists last season, the Ajax captain is more than capable of returning to England and again showcasing what he can do two years on from leaving Tottenham for a return to Holland.

And with Leicester of all teams interested in Bergwijn, the Foxes could be ideal suitors for the Dutch winger, especially under new manager Steve Cooper, who could take the forward’s game to a new level.
