Ange Postecoglou will be handed an increased transfer budget to reinforce his squad in the summer.
Tottenham have suffered four consecutive defeats in the Premier League in recent weeks.
Those defeats have almost ended their hopes of a place in the Champions League for next season. While the recent results haven’t gone in their favour, it has still been a decent first season for Postecoglou at the club and Daniel Levy is expected to back the Australian in the upcoming transfer window.
The North London club are expected to have an increased transfer budget in the summer because of a recent development.
Spurs have submitted an application to Haringey Council to increase the number of non-footballing activities hosted by the club from 16 to 30 per year. It will be a big financial boost for the club and John Wenham, the owner of the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels the club will now be competing with the biggest clubs in Europe for players.
Wenham while talking to Tottenham News said: “This will be a huge financial boost on top of the figures which were posted recently which demonstrate the upward trajectory the club is on.
“I know that an overall loss was posted, but that is not of too much concern to me right now considering the loans that are being paid off.
“Daniel Levy and the club know what they’re doing, and we saw in January that Tottenham were able to compete with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich for players.
“I expect that the club will operate in a similar vein this summer and Postecoglou will have more money to spend.”
Wenham feels the club is on an upward trajectory and this move will help them further improve their financial position. He believes Levy and the club are well aware of what they are doing and the recent commercial moves will turn them into a powerhouse in European football.
They competed with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the winter for players and similar moves can be expected in the summer.
Postecoglou will have a bigger budget than expected and it remains to be seen whether he can reshape the squad as per his liking. The Australian boss has already made it clear that Spurs will look to make major changes to their squad in the summer and the increased budget will surely help his cause.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to benefit from the potential sale of Sunderland attacker Jack Clarke.
The 23-year-old secured a switch from North London to the Stadium of Light during the summer transfer window of 2022 for a fee of around £1.5m.
Clarke had spent the second half of the 2021-22 term on loan at Sunderland, who secured promotion to the Championship under the leadership of Tony Mowbray.
Since taking to the field in the second tier, the former Spurs youngster has been arguably the star man for the North-East club, providing 40 goal contributions in the Championship over the past two years.
Featuring for Regis Le Bris’s troops in pre-season, Clarke has continued his goalscoring form, holding his nerve from 12 yards during friendlies against Gateshead and Nottingham Forest.
According to Sunderland specialist James Copley, Tottenham are preparing to benefit financially from Clarke’s potential exit of Sunderland this summer.
The report claims that the Lilywhites inserted a 25% sell-on clause in the deal with the Black Cats that allowed the winger to switch to the Championship club in 2022.
It is understood that Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town are set to make a bid for Clarke, who could be in line for a top-flight move.
Kieran McKenna’s side have already recruited a number of players who impressed in the Championship last term, including Jacob Greaves from Hull City and Omari Hutchinson.
It is believed that Sunderland are demanding at least £25m for Clarke, who has scored 27 goals in 112 appearances for the Black Cats over 30 months.
As well as the Tractor Boys, it is said that fellow promotion winners Southampton are monitoring Clarke’s situation ahead of the new campaign.
Russell Martin’s men are in the market for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Scotland international Che Adams to Italian side Torino earlier this week.
Clarke helped inflict the Saints with a heavy defeat during the early stages of last season, with the 23-year-old’s first-minute strike commencing the fun for Sunderland during their 5-0 demolition of the South-coast club.
Earning promotion via the playoffs, Southampton definitely enjoyed the last laugh and could now severely weaken the Black Cats’ best XI by luring Clarke away from the Stadium of Light.
