The possibility of AC Milan finally striking a deal for Tottenham defender Emerson Royal is “on the rise” after it appeared they had given up.
A report yesterday indicated that there had been a positive turnaround in Milan’s already long and drawn-out pursuit of Emerson this summer, explaining that they had returned to the idea of signing him and were now keen to get a deal over the line.
That was followed by a claim today that Milan would make a ‘decisive assault’ for the defender this weekend and were now one step away from getting it over the line.
Bianchin has now echoed that sentiment, providing Milan News with a positive update on the matter when asked today.
“For Emerson Royal, the dialogue with Tottenham and above all with the player has continued for some time,” he said.
“It seemed that Milan had chosen to proceed with other priorities, now the possibilities are on the rise.”
The big question is whether Milan have now decided to move closer to Tottenham’s demands for the Brazilian full-back.
They seemed determined to try and get him on the cheap and started with a low first offer and had only slowly, very slowly in fact, moved closer towards Tottenham’s demands over the last few weeks.
Unless they’ve suddenly now decided to up their bid considerably then that will remain the case, but there does seem to be an increasing positivity in Italy that they can get their man out of Tottenham.
AC Milan want to strengthen their right flank and have been working for some time on the signing of Brazilian full-back Emerson Royal. According to ‘Sky Sport’, the Serie A side have intensified contacts with Spurs for the arrival of the Brazilian.
AC Milan are scouting the market in search of a full-back for Paulo Fonseca for next season after reinforcing the attacking department with the arrival of Alvaro Morata. Their first target is Emerson Royal.
Although the trail seemed to have gone cold in recent times, according to ‘Sky Sport’, the Serie A side have stepped up contacts with Tottenham to close the transfer as soon as possible.
The 25-year-old, who was brought to Europe by Real Betis in 2018, wore the Andalusian side’s shirt until 2021, when he was bought by Barcelona.
In 2022 he flew to the Premier League to wear the Tottenham shirt, where he has played a total of 100 games and scored four goals. His price tag is 20 million euros, but the Italians are hoping to get a discount.
Giorgio Furlani and Zlatan Ibrahimović have repeatedly stated that Milan is not in a hurry because the transfer market is still long, but the Rossoneri are ready to accelerate some operations in the coming days, particularly those that should bring two reinforcements to the defence at Milanello, namely Emerson Royal from Tottenham and Strahinja Pavlovic from Salzburg.
Tuttosport reports this morning that the AC Milan club management is preparing a decisive push for both players as the gaps with their current clubs are narrowing.
For example, in the case of the Serbian central defender, there is “only” a three million euro difference between the asking price and the offer: the request is 25 million euros, while Milan has offered 22 million euros. For Emerson Royal, however, the gap has almost been closed entirely, and an agreement with Tottenham is very close.
The Rossoneri’s intention is to finalise these two deals within ten days, after which they will focus on the midfield, where the priority is to acquire a defensive midfielder to place in front of the defense (Fofana from Monaco is still a viable option, although there have been no updates in recent hours and Monaco continues to demand 35 million euros), and on the attack, with Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund still being the preferred choice to complete Milan’s offensive line.
Milan have remained in contact with Tottenham to try and set up a deal for Emerson Royal, edging closer to an agreement.
The Rossoneri are looking for a new right back to bolster Paulo Fonseca’s backline, wanting a fresh option as both Davide Calabria and Alessandro Florenzi have entered the last years of their contract, and have been keen on the Spurs man for a number of weeks now.
Milan are also seriously interested in picking up Strahinja Pavlovic from RB Salzburg and Lazar Samardzic from Udinese, needing to make some space in the midfield to welcome the latter. The goal is to try and close the gap to Inter following last season.
Milan closer to Emerson Royal
Gianluca Di Marzio details how Milan are continuing talks with Tottenham to try and step closer to an agreement for Emerson Royal. Whilst no deal is in place yet, confidence is growing that things can progress further.
Last season, the 25-year-old Brazilian right back scored one goal across 24 appearances in all competitions, making just 11 Premier League starts.
