Tottenham summer target unwilling to sign new deal

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window is still waiting to really be kickstarted into life having only signed Archie Gray permanently.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have now began their tour of Asia with just one permanent signing through the doors.

This summer transfer window promised change in north London and so far it has only really seen players depart.

Emerson Royal could be the next to leave with AC Milan back in talks over the Brazilian full-back.

But there is one player who Tottenham are looking to bring in before the window shuts who is now unwilling to sign a new contract with his current club.

It has been a slow start to the window for Spurs but there are signs of the Lilywhites bursting into life in the market.

On Wednesday afternoon, Tottenham closed in on the signing of Min-hyuk Yang from Gangwon FC in South Korean.

However, Yang will not be joining Spurs properly until January as he will return to the K-League to finish out the season with his current club.

So as it stands, Spurs could soon have three signings over the line this summer with just one actual new face heading into the new campaign.

According to BBC Sport, Tottenham striker target Ivan Toney is still refusing to put pen to paper on a new deal with Brentford.

The England international is now into the final 12 months of his deal with the Bees meaning this is the last summer for Brentford to really cash in.

And the 28-year-old will be available on a free next summer if he does not get a move over the coming weeks with the prospect of a new deal off the cards for the striker.

Brentford believe the striker would give his all for the club if he was forced to stay in west London but Toney is said to be hoping for a move to Tottenham.

The lack of pressing interest in Toney this summer could be why Brentford are being forced to cut down on their asking price.

It has been claimed Tottenham could now sign Toney for around £50m over the coming weeks as the Bees look to grant the striker’s demands.

And thje 28-year-old is a player who Postecoglou is a big fan of having already hailed Toney during his 12 months as the Spurs manager.

“Yeah look I think he’s a fantastic player and you can see just how important he is to that Brentford team. He changes it almost overnight,” Postecoglou previously said.

“They’ve obviously been going through a rough trot in terms of results in recent times, and they’ve obviously had their fair share of injuries. But as soon as he comes into that team he gives them a different look, both as a player but also the presence he had.”
