Harry Kane broke his silence the morning after England’s defeat to Spain in the European Championship final.
The Three Lions feel to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Spain in Berlin on Sunday, and in the process became the first side in history to lose successive Euro finals.
The defeat means that England’s wait for a second major honour will go into it’s 60th year.
Kane has since become the first England player to break his silence on social media, revealing his “heartbreak” at the defeat on Instagram.
The England skipper wrote: “Heartbroken we couldn’t achieve what we worked so hard to. It was a long tough tournament and I’m so proud of the boys and staff for getting to the final.
“Ultimately we fell short of our target and will have to live with that but as we always do we will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and be ready to fight again in an England shirt.
“Thank you to all the fans that believed in us and supported us to the very end!”
Gary Neville has made a worrying statement about Harry Kane in the wake of England’s defeat to Spain.
On Sunday England fell to a 2-1 defeat in the European Championship final, after Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal netted a late sucker punch goal.
It meant the Three Lions’ wait for a second major honour goes into its 60th year, while Gareth Southgate’s men become the first team in history to lose two successive Euro finals.
Among England’s underperforming stars was Kane, who despite scoring three goals across the tournament, struggled to make a strong impression on any of the games.
And former Manchester United star Neville has since claimed he believes Kane has been carrying an injury throughout the competition.
Neville said: “I’ve said a number of times in this last couple of weeks – whether it will come out or not, I’m not sure now because of the fact they last in the manner they did – I’d be amazed if it doesn’t come out in some way that Harry has been carrying some form of injury and patching himself up to get out onto the pitch.
“He physically never looked himself during the tournament and I think everyone could see that. It’s not a technical thing with Harry Kane. It’s not a performance thing. This guy is England’s best ever in his position.
“It’s more about the fact of his mobility on the pitch and there’s no doubt he wasn’t free. Gareth took him off relatively early last night and obviously, you look at the touch match of Harry and that’s just not him.
“But it hasn’t been in this tournament and there will be questions of course. Gareth’s been loyal over the course of his tournament. He’s had a plan; he’s had a strategy. He’s not changed it much.
“That at times has brought criticism from everybody, thinking that there needed to be an interference with his team selection. But he’s got us to a final and the plan was working in getting us to that final.
“He’s got a lot of experience, Gareth, in managing these types of tournaments, but Harry’s performances were nowhere near the level he’s set and ultimately there will be question marks.
“Whether it will come out about him – obviously if it comes out in the next few weeks that he’s been patching himself up it may bring further questions as to why he was picked. It does feel like he was to me.”
