Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season is underway and Ange Postecoglou is hoping to write the wrongs of last season.
Considering the previous campaign was his debut in English football and he walked into a mess, then a fifth-placed finish was outstanding.
It also needs to be noted that Harry Kane left Tottenham for Bayern Munich, so that didn’t help his cause, either.
Now, the England captain is preparing to win the first major trophy of his career, after failing to do so in the colours of Spurs.
Of course, Gareth Southgate could call upon Ollie Watkins after his dramatic Euro 2024 goal against the Netherlands, or the ice-cool penalty king, Ivan Toney.
But it’s just not in Southgate’s nature to go down that road, but Declan Rice will be named in the XI and hoping to write his name in history.
Ahead of the big finale, the Arsenal midfielder was raving about one of his teammates who is wanted by Tottenham ahead of the new season.
Rice shared that he has become ‘really close’ with Toney and how he was ’incredible’ during England’s penalty shootout win over Switzerland in the quarter-finals.
Sources have told us what is Brentford’s transfer stance on Toney amid interest from Tottenham – who will be playing Europa League football next term.
At the age of 28, you feel Toney is ready for the step up, with Rice stating that the hard-hitting striker has been ‘unbelievable’ at Euro 2024, as he told his England press conference.

“I just try to have as much fun as possible off the pitch,” said Rice. “With Ivan (Toney), I think we have just clicked. Ever since he got into the squad, we just got on.
“I think even in from his time at Brentford, you know, we used to speak all the time after games and stuff, swap shirts, so, yeah, we have always got on and we are really close now, which is really nice. We spend a lot of time together and just even seeing him the other night come on, when he got his first minutes, made the impact, got the assist, obviously took his pen like however he did, it was just incredible.
“You know, he has been unbelievable in this tournament for the whole squad, so, yeah, he is a really good friend of mine now.”
Should Tottenham Hotspur sign Ivan Toney?
There are sections of the Spurs fanbase crying out for their club to bring in that much-wanted striker because they are yet to replace Kane.
In truth, they will never replace Kane just because of what he did for the club for over a decade.
