Spurs ended the Premier League campaign in fifth and there were clear signs of progression in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR IN TALKS TO SIGN £60M-RATED PLAYER LIKENED TO PHIL FODEN

Now, the Australian boss and his club chiefs will be preparing for the fast-approaching summer transfer window.

That said, it seems they’ve already identified one target and have started talks.

Tottenham Hotspur in talks to sign Georgiy Sudakov

According to the Daily Express, Tottenham are in talks to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Georgiy Sudakov.

Chelsea are also thought to be interested in signing the 21-year-old, who has been likened to City playmaker Foden.

North London rivals Arsenal have previously held an interest in Sudakov but it appears Spurs have stolen a march on his signature.

Shakhtar rejected a £34m proposal from Napoli during the winter window and aren’t expected to sanction a sale before the Euro’s – when his price tag could rise.

Sudakov is thought to be valued at around £60m.

Georgiy Sudakov statistics

The two-footed playmaker netted 10 times whilst laying on six assists last term, operating as a number 10, a number eight and even as a left-midfielder.

As per FBref, Sudakov ranks in the top 14 per cent for non-penalty xG and top 20 per cent for progressive carries compared to his positional peers across the big five leagues.

Further, he sits in the top 23 per cent for shot-creating actions, evincing his terrific playmaking ability.

If Spurs are to land his signature this summer, they’ll be getting a very creative midfielder.

In other news, The curtain has come down on yet another Premier League season and what a season it was.

Manchester City were crowned champions for a fourth consecutive campaign but had to see off a valiant Arsenal on the final day. Ollie Watkins propelled Aston Villa into the Champions League places while Cole Palmer dragged Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea to sixth place.

Ange Postecoglou impressed with his style of play at Tottenham, Jurgen Klopp waved goodbye to Liverpool after nine years at Anfield and Erik ten Hag largely disappointed at Manchester United.
