The ‘will he, won’t he’ saga regarding Harry Kane staying at Tottenham Hotspur was answered emphatically in the summer when the striker made the move to Bayern Munich.
It brought an end to one of the longer running transfer soap operas, given that it was obvious that the centre-forward had wanted to leave for Man City a couple of years previously, but on that occasion Daniel Levy held all the aces.
On this occasion the power battle had switched around, and with just 12 months left on his Spurs contract, Kane could afford to put the squeeze on the chairman.
Given the way in which Ange Postecoglou has started his reign at Tottenham, you’d have to argue that the north Londoners are getting on just fine without their talisman, and perhaps you’d even go as far as to suggest that they are playing better as a team.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has revealed the club have a buy-back clause to re-sign Harry Kane after he joined Bayern Munich this summer. The England captain completed a £100million move to the Allianz Arena just days before Spurs began their Premier League campaign.
After Kane signed a four-year contract with Bayern – Spurs released a lengthy statement thanking the 30-year-old for his time at the club over the past 19 years. The statement read: “The club can confirm the permanent transfer of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.”
Levy’s comments as part of the statement read: “We sought over a long period of time to engage Harry and his representatives in several forms of contract extension, both short and long term. Harry was clear, however, that he wanted a fresh challenge and would not be signing a new contract this summer.
“I should like to thank Harry for everything he’s done for us, all the memories, all the records – we wish him and his family all the best for the future. It goes without saying, he’s always welcome back. He’s a much loved and valued member of the Spurs family, forever in our history.”
Kane has had a huge impact at Bayern already but has admitted he is still keeping a close eye on his former club as Ange Postecoglou prepares his side for the North London Derby this weekend. Speaking ahead of the game, Kane said: “Fantastic start [for Spurs], I am always keeping an eye on them and I think I will for the rest of my life.
