Conor Gallagher is set to snub Tottenham this summer with Chelsea fans’ anger on the agenda.
Dan Bardell believes Conor Gallagher could reject any approach from Tottenham to terminate his Chelsea contract.
The Sun reports (12/4) that Ange Postecoglou wants to sign the England international to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
Given that Gallagher’s contract has just over 12 months left, Todd Boehly could look to make a purely profit-making move this summer rather than lose him for free.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the midfielder could run down his contract and consider free agent options rather than move to Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Seeing Gallagher go to Tottenham, I think it will upset Chelsea fans because he will definitely make Tottenham better.
He’s a very good football player, better than you think.
He’s a Chelsea lad, so would he want to go to Spurs?
I’m not sure.
The clubs are in a situation with PSR where they have to let local players go, but I don’t think the players will want to leave or feel obliged to do so.
He could wait out his contract if Chelsea don’t want him and give himself more options on where to go.
I think he wants to stay at Chelsea.
» Connor Gallagher Link with Tottenham resumed Tottenham had a fairly positive campaign in Postecoglou’s first season in the Premier League, although they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
That said, there are many periods during the year when the team is torn apart by injuries.
The group must be reviewed this summer and new options must be put forward to strengthen existing options.
Gallagher would certainly be a useful addition to Postecoglou’s midfield conversation, especially with a number of potential departures.
It’s safe to say that Giovanni Lo Celso, Pierre Emile-Hojberg and even Oliver Skipp may not be good enough as Spurs look to improve.
Gallagher is capable of playing as a box-to-box midfielder but is also capable of playing more offensively.
It’s unclear how much Spurs could spend this summer, but with his contract set to expire, they could hold more cards in negotiations.
In other Tottenham news, player must wait for permanent move despite a sale agreement in place.
