Fan footage has emerged showing the build-up to Arsenal’s opening game against Spurs – and it shows why Bukayo Saka cut off his ear to celebrate
Arsenal maintain their one-point lead at the top of the Premier League thanks to three first-half goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg [OG], Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz
Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min ensured a tense finish for the Gunners but they continued to pile pressure on Manchester City, who have a game in hand
Mikel Arteta’s side got off to a brilliant start in the 15th minute, when Hojbjerg scored an own goal to give the visitors the lead
Moments later, Saka can be seen straining his ears towards a section of Spurs fans after charging into the corner from the near post
As you can see in the footage above, Saka became the target of chants regarding his missed penalty in the 2020 European Championship final before taking a corner
The England international once again silenced the audience when he doubled Arsenal’s lead immediately afterwards
“In a way I feel sorry for Ben Davies, but you know Saka is back on his left wing,” said Paul Merson, who is reporting for Sky Sports
“I can’t let him do this
” Speaking after Sunday’s derby win, Saka gave his view on the tightest Premier League title race in years
City are an incredible team, but they’re not perfect,” he told Sky Sports
“No one is perfect
They can lose points
We just need to do our job and see where it takes us
“There’s not much room for error, as they showed last year last, [and] the years before that
Now we have experience
We learned our lesson last year
We’re ready for the last three games
” He added: “Maybe last season it would have ended in a draw
Today we showed that we have experience
We can come here and score three points, even if the stakes are very high and it’s a big game
I’m very happy
“We knew this was a big derby and they didn’t want to lose 3-0 at home
Once they scored a goal, the crowd stood up, they stood up, the momentum changed, but I’m proud of every th The boys fought to the end and won by 3 points “We know what it means to the fans and to us It means everything
We know this is a big challenge for us and we have three left
“We’ll give it our all and see where it takes us
“
