Son Heung-min admits he has an illness that could prevent him from becoming a Premier League star
Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League and even Europe over the past few years
The South Korea international has formed a good partnership with Harry Kane and continued this season with 14 league goals to help fill the void following the England international’s departure to Bayern Munich
Since arriving at Tottenham for £22m from Bayer Leverkusen, Son has scored 117 goals and provided 60 assists in 293 Premier League appearances


Although he did not win trophies with Tottenham, Son will be remembered as one of the Premier League’s great strikers and one of the best Asian players of all time
But things could have been so different
In the Amazon Prime 2021 documentary Sonsational, which follows Son’s journey from childhood in South Korea to the Premier League, the Tottenham star admits he suffers from insomnia
People with insomnia have difficulty falling asleep or not sleeping long enough to feel refreshed the next morning
In a documentary in which Son is shown around the new house he moved into, Son explains that the building’s amenities help him cope with his condition

“This place [new home] has many options for relaxation, that’s why I moved in,” Son said
“There are many days when the match ends late and I have insomnia
Then I can go to the swimming pool right away, it helps me recover
” And the gym is not big but very well equipped
I can focus completely on my game and recovery
» While one in three people in the UK suffer from symptoms related to insomnia, around 10% of people worldwide have symptoms severe enough to be considered a disorder under their true meaning
