Paul Merson was stunned by Guglielmo Vicario’s action just seconds before the start of today’s Premier League match between Tottenham and Brighton.

What Merson had to say about Vicario:
The Italian stunned the Londoners in the N17 a minute into today’s Premier League clash when he dismissed both Danny Welbeck and Kaoru Mitoma in remarkable fashion.
After Merson got Simon Thomas’s attention with a couple of excited exclamations, he said in disbelief: ‘Welbeck went down the right, Bentancur came in on the pair, threw him a dummy, tipped it with his left foot, it’s a great save by the goalkeeper.
“You think it’s going to fall to Mitoma and he’s going to tap, but no – what a save.”
Vicario was – nevertheless – beaten just moments later when Pascal Gross scored from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.
Still, the 27-year-old was not at fault for Brighton’s opener, and things would have been much worse had he not blocked early strikes from Welbeck and Mitoma.
Vicario had kept six clean sheets in 25 appearances this season before today’s meeting with Brighton, conceding 36 goals.

The North Londoners have made a great replacement for Hugo Lloris with Vicario.
The Udinese-born defender arrived from Empoli in June for just £17.2 million, a bargain in modern times when, for example, Andre Onana is leaving for £47.2 million.
Moreover, Vicario is only 27 years old, so he could be Tottenham’s number 1 for most of the next decade.
He may still have some work to do when it comes to imposing himself from opponents’ corners – which, truth be told, he is improving – but there is no doubt that Tottenham have found a real goalkeeping gem in Vicario.
