Former Tottenham player Darren Bent compared Timo Werner and Antony to take a playful dig at the latter while talking in talkSPORTS’ YouTube podcast. The subject of the matter was ‘the number of assists’. Darren Brent said:

The ‘truth bomb’ incited elicited a funny response from Darren Brent’s co-host Andy Goldstein who said,

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United faced off quite intensively as they drew 2-2 at Old Trafford. Manchester United led the game twice but failed to resist a high-pressing Spurs to take all three points home.

Timo Werner assisted Rodrigo Bentancur 46 minutes into the game against Manchester United.

However, the Red Devils weren’t the favourites to win the game, so a draw is equivalent to a victory in the eyes of many. On the other hand, Ange Postecoglou’s hopes of mimicking Jose Mourinho by winning away at Trafford remains unfulfilled.

The comparison between Antony and Timo Werner seems outrageous but it isn’t baseless. The Brazilian signed for Manchester United almost two years ago but hasn’t been quite impactful. The former Ajax man has featured in 17 games (starting in 11 of them).

However, even the cumulative 911 minutes haven’t helped the United winger register a goal or an assist this season. Whereas, Timo Werner managed to be directly involved in a goal within 46 minutes of his debut. He assisted Rodrigo Bentancur with a skilful through ball that pulled the game level for the Londoners.

In short, Darren Brent compared Antony’s 911 minutes with 0 assists vs Timo Werner’s 46 minutes and one assist. Figuratively speaking, Timo Werner boasts more experience in the Premier League than Antony.

The German endured a ‘not-so-great’ few years at Chelsea before heading back to RB Leipzig. Ange Postecoglou signed the 27-year-old as a loanee and it seems like a good signing. Tottenham is in much need of a forward with Werner’s calibre, especially during the absence of Heung-min Son
