Manchester city star kelvin De Bruyne fire James Maddison demand after Tottenham signing

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has urged James Maddison to hit the ground running at Tottenham Hotspur this season if he is to be recognised as one of the Premier League’s best players.

Maddison, 26, completed a £40million move to North London from Leicester City at the end of June. The England international’s arrival has, so far, proved an instant success with him registering two goals in two games and impressing the majority of the Spurs fanbase.

The former Norwich City and Coventry City man signed for the club after scoring 55 goals and assisting another 41 for Leicester between 2018-2022. His performances in the Premier League over the past four years have seen him become one of the league’s most productive attacking playmakers.
However, De Bruyne has reserved his judgement on the midfielder in comparison to Bruno Fernandes and Martin Odegaard, urging the Spurs ace to replicate his numbers at a top side.
“I think he’s (Fernandes) a creative machine, just in general,” De Bruyne continued. “He’s been doing it for a long time.”

“[Odegaard’ is] very creative but he’s more controlled,” he continued. “Odegaard were amazing last year but obviously he’s younger.”

Speaking to Sky Sports’ Joe Thomlinson, De Bruyne was asked to rank Fernandes, Odegaard and Maddison as the most creative midfielders in the Premier League. The Belgium international placed Maddison third, Odegaard second and Fernandes at the top.

When asked to explain his decision, De Bruyne insisted that he needed to see more from Maddison playing for a big team. “Maddison is really creative, but I need to see more of him in a big team, so that can change,” he said.
