Official Announcement- Tottenham 100% Closing On High Profile Signing, Personal terms Agreed, player could be possibly unveiled along with Ange

It’s a done deal! One day after we (or at least some of us) tracked his plane from Germany across Europe, Timo Werner has been announced as Tottenham Hotspur’s newest player. The German forward joins Spurs on loan until the end of the season from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

It’s fun when a signing comes out of nowhere, and this one certainly did. There didn’t seem to be any hints that Timo Werner was interested in a move out of Germany, much less to Spurs. It’s even better because there was reported interest in him from Manchester United as well, and it’s always fun to take one of their targets.

Timo will spend the rest of the season on loan in North London, and the club reportedly have an option to make the loan permanent for €17m at the end of the season. That makes this a remarkably low risk and high upside move — Timo’s got a reputation for being a poor finisher, especially during his stint at Chelsea, and has been more or less replaced in RB’s side by Loïs Openda. But he’s still a talented football player, will likely take to Ange Postecoglou’s high press and high octane tactics, and is motivated to make it back to the EUROs with Germany. If he works out, Spurs have just done a coup for a very good player who can help them. If it doesn’t work out, they’re not out much except for his £162k/wk wages.

I’m excited to see what Timo can do for Spurs. He’ll be available for selection for this Sunday’s match at Manchester United, and I hope we get to see him play.
