Tottenham are working on a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in January, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, editor Wayne Veysey revealed that Chelsea would be willing to sell the 23-year-old to their London rivals despite the antipathy between the two clubs and the rarity of any transfers involving them.
It is believed that the Blues are willing to let Gallagher go for a fee of between £45-50million to help manage their Financial Fair Play obligations.
The midfielder is a home-grown talent and academy graduate, which means that a deal would count as pure profit for the club in the same way as the £60m Mason Mount move to Man United last summer.
Negotiations between Tottenham and Chelsea are underway over a potential deal that could even be done this month.
Spurs are prioritising the capture of Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin, with Fabio Paratici “pulling the strings”, but are also keen on signing a central midfielder and wide forward.
The sale of Gallagher to Tottenham would enrage supporters of Chelsea, with no love lost between the two sets of supporters.
The former Crystal Palace loanee has been a key player under Mauricio Pochettino this season having started all but one of the club’s Premier League games.
The midfielder has yet to find the net this season but has provided four assists in the league and has also captained the side on numerous occasions in Reece James’ absence through injury.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2025 and that has placed his future firmly up in the air with 18 months left.
Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League table after their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth, while Chelsea are 10th after their 3-2 win against Luton Town.
