Tottenham headed into the January transfer window with one blatant need – a new centre back.

Ange Postecoglou comments on Eric Dier to West Ham United rumours
Dier is into the final stages of his Tottenham contract and is very likely to leave the club either this month or in the summer.
The 29-year-old has only started one Premier League game this season and still isn’t being called upon despite the injury problems at Spurs.
It’s clear that Ange Postecoglou doesn’t want to call upon Dier for his back line and he has now offered a fairly blunt comment about Dier’s future.
Football Transfers reported just a few days ago that West Ham United are interested in signing Dier this month.

“No idea. Not on my radar,” said Postecoglou.
Postecoglou is seemingly leaving the decision to Dier as he approaches the end of his deal.
If Dier wants to see out his contract and probably serve as fifth or even sixth-choice at centre back, then he is free to do so.
Dier may well want to wait until he becomes a free agent, so he can have his free pick of the clubs and potentially land a hefty signing-on fee.
A new deal seemingly isn’t in the offing though and West Ham may well have a real chance at a deal if they make an official offer.
