The Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has said that Emerson Royal is expected to partner Ben Davies at centre-back in Tottenham’s clash against Brighton this evening.
Cristian Romero came off with a hamstring issue at half-time against Everton and Ange Postecoglou delivered some bad news on the Argentine on Wednesday, revealing that he will be out of action for around four to five weeks (Football.London).
The Argentine joins Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon on the treatment table while Yves Bissouma is currently serving a suspension.
Romero’s injury comes at a particularly bad time as Spurs also be without Bissouma, Pape Sarr and Son Heung-min next month due to the AFCON and the Asian Cup.
Emerson to start against Brighton
Postecoglou has the option of turning to Eric Dier, who played the second half against the Toffees or 18-year-old Ashley Phillips, who has recovered from his injury problem.
However, Kilpatrick has now said that the Australian is once again expected to play Emerson at right centre-back, just as he did in Tottenham’s 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month.
The Brazilian filled in at left-back against the Toffees owing to Destiny Udogie’s suspension, and with the Italian now set to return, the 24-year-old is expected to partner Davies in the heart of the Spurs defence.
