ROY KEANE LOVES WHAT HE’S HEARING ABOUT TOTTENHAM BOSS ANGE POSTECOGLOU

Pundit Roy Keane has praised the personality of Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou after Sunday’s draw away at Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou has a laid-back personality which is really helping Tottenham Hotspur this season.

That is the verdict of pundit Roy Keane, who has been speaking to Sky Sports about the Spurs boss.

Tottenham headed to the Etihad Stadium with few given them a chance of getting anything after three defeats in a row and a number of injured stars.

Spurs rode their luck at times but showed great resolve to twice come from behind to secure a 3-3 draw with Dejan Kulusevskibagging a late goal.

Tottenham again showed that they will not change their principles under Postecoglou.

No matter the situation, the personnel, the opponent – Tottenham will continue to play a daring brand of football.

That may get Spurs in trouble at times but Postecoglou is trying to build a culture and a style for the long term.

Pundit Roy Keane likes what he sees and has now moved to praise Postecoglou’s personality.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Keane admitted that he is ‘really impressed’ with Postecoglou and his ‘laid-back approach’.

Keane believes that Postecoglou is really instilling belief in his Tottenham players and he loves the messages he is giving the Spurs squad.

A top-four finish is still beyond Tottenham in Keane’s eyes, but he still believes that Postecoglou has brought ‘big improvements’ in recent months.

“I’m really impressed with the manager there,” said Keane. “When he spoke there, I think his personality is certainly helping this club at the moment. I think his laid-back approach is certainly helping the players, even the players spoke after the game about ‘what was his message at half-time’ and they said ‘obviously have that belief and stop overthinking things’, I like those messages and I think that’s what they did in the second half. I think, with the manager there, top four might be a bit of a stretch but there’s definitely big improvements at Spurs, over the last few months, definitely,” he added.

Postecoglou attempting to build long-term belief at Tottenham

Some will criticise Postecoglou’s approach given that Spurs did give up several golden chances for City to put the game away.

It may be viewed as a kamikaze approach but Postecoglou doesn’t want to play like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Postecoglou has no interest in sitting deep and playing counter-attacking football; he wants Tottenham to be bold and confident, no matter the opponent.

The Australian seemed to push for Tottenham to play even more and believe in the approach more, sparking a strong second-half display.

The idea is to build this Tottenham squad in a positive image for the long term, rather than pushing principles and taking them away in certain situations.

Postecoglou will hope that it pays off and Tottenham fans appear to be loving his confidence in the early stages of his Spurs reign.
