Tottenham risk losing midfielder to Barcelona in January following Gavi’s injury – Potential transfer looms

Barcelona have once again turned their attention towards Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso after Gavi’s injury.

Spanish prodigy Gavi suffered a serious injury as he tore his ACL against Georgia during their 3-1 win in the Euro 2024 qualifier.

The unfortunate injury is set to keep him out of action for 6 to 8 months, pretty much ending his season.

Barcelona have began working on bringing someone in on an emergency in light of his long-term absence with Spurs midfielder one of the top targets.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club could make a loan mover for Tottenham’s Lo Celso.

Xavi is said to be a big fan of the player and wanted to sign the Argentine in the summer as well as a replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Lo Celso has struggled to secure a regular place in the Tottenham squad in recent years and has spent a significant amount of time on loan at Villarreal.

Despite impressing Ange in the pre-season, Lo Celso has only played 83 minutes of football across all competitions.

But he may have an opportunity now to make a case for himself in the absence of James Maddison.

The former Leicester has been one of the signings of the summer for Spurs. But an unfortunate injury will now see him miss out on action until January.

Spurs who are short of options in the midfield may end up keeping Lo Celso for the rest of the season but a lot will depend how they perform in the January transfer window.
