Tottenham are preparing themselves for some January business and reports are suggesting a move for Barcelona’s Raphinha could be on the cards.
Spurs are expected to make some moves in the January window thanks to a number of injuries hitting them hard this month.
With James Maddison and Micky van de Ven out, Tottenham’s plans could very much centre around making sure those two players are replaced to some extent.
And according to a report from Football Transfers, Barcelona winger Raphinha is a target, with a remarkable swap deal for central defender Cristian Romero also mentioned.
Barcelona want Tottenham to swap Romero for Raphinha
According to Football Transfers, Barcelona would be open to letting Raphinha go if Tottenham were willing to let Romero come as part of the deal.
It is also mentioned how the Catalan club would prefer straight cash too, with a fee of around £61m touted as the figure they want.
Of course, the idea of Tottenham sending their best defender to Barcelona simply to land a winger is quite an odd one.
Ange Postecoglou is heavily reliant on both Romero and the injured Van de Ven to hold things together at the back for him with his high line tactics.
Losing Romero but bringing in Raphinha would effectively defeat the object of bringing a new winger in.
Naturally, we see a lot of transfer talk as we hurtle towards January and this seems to be one of the stranger rumours to emerge so far.
Raphinha, yes, would be a good signing for Tottenham and offer them another attacking outlet. But at the expense of losing Romero? No chance at all.
Tottenham are building under Ange Postecoglou and Romero is a key part of that rebuild. Selling him now would quite simply be madness.
