HE IS THE BEST FOR TOTTENHAM Fans and Levy eyeing £47m star who Matt Doherty said is one of the best strikers of a ball he’s ever seen

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Portugal international midfielder Ruben Neves in recent days.

For instance, TEAMtalk reported that Spurshave added Neves to their shortlist of central midfielders ahead of the New Year.

In an additional boost to Spurs, Al-Hilal’s £47million summer signing is said to be open to a January return to the Premier League.

Tottenham could certainly do with bolstering their ranks in January. Spurs may have a great starting XI but they could do with more strength in depth.

And there is no doubt Neves would be a great signing for Tottenham. The £47million man is a world-class talent in his prime.

The 26-year-old has extensive English football experience. He clocked up 253 appearances for Wolves, registering 30 goals and 13 assists during his time in old gold.

Indeed, Neves has gone down in history as one of the best footballers ever to play for Wolves, with some of their fans deeming him “iconic” and “wonderful”.

The Portuguese also earned huge praise from teammates. Former Tottenham defender Matt Doherty said he was one of the best strikers of a ball he’s ever seen.

In February 2020, Neves controlled a loose ball on his chest before emphatically volleying home from 20 yards to help Wolves to a 4-0 Europa League win over Espanyol.

“We have players in the team who can do that,” Doherty told the club’s media teamafter the match.

“He’s done it before, and the way he shoots… I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody with the technique to be able to strike a ball on goal as well as he can.”

When a player of Neves’ calibre potentially becomes available, clubs would be foolish not to make the most of it.

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg continues to be linked with a potential January move away. If he does leave, Neves would be a solid replacement.

However, Spurs need to be mindful of the fact that other clubs may be in pursuit. For instance, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Neves.
