Roy Keane and Ian Wright were involved in a heated argument about whether there is ‘pressure’ at Tottenham Hotspur for Ange Postecoglou.
The Arsenal legend was adamant that Tottenham’snew man in the dugout is playing ‘under pressure’.
But the no-nonsense and outspoken Roy Keane was having none of it because he pointed out that Harry Kane is no longer at the club and Spurs haven’t done much for the past few decades, as he told The Overlap.
Ange Postecoglou has only been in the dugout for a matter of months, yet he has transformed a club that was on its knees not so long ago.
After eight Premier League games, they are sitting top of the table, with the club’s mentality and style of play changed within a flash.
Whilst many have praised that, when talk turned to ‘pressure’, a certain Keane was, pardon the pun, keen to state that there isn’t any at Hotspur Way.
Pressure or no pressure?
“Ange Postecoglou has come in, under a lot of pressure,” said Wright. “And he is showing us that Tottenham are playing in a certain way.”
Keane then asked: “Who is under pressure?” to which Wright responded, “Postecoglou.” Keane added, “No, he wasn’t!”
“How can he not be under pressure coming from Celtic to Tottenham?” questioned Wright.
Keane then responded: “There wasn’t any pressure because people weren’t expecting much. They sold Kane and it was like ‘let’s see how this goes?’”
“Where they expecting Tottenham to be doing what they are doing now?” asked Wright. “Absolutely not,” said Keane.
IW: “You are saying to me that Postecoglou is coming in at Tottenham with everything that is happening. How can you not be under pressure?”
RK: “Because they sold Kane. There are no expectations on them because Spurs have done nothing for 20-odd years.”
Returning to Europe
That’s the aim for Spurs this season after they missed out on Europe altogether during the previous campaign.
In truth, not even the most ardent of Spurs fans would have imagined them to be sitting top of the tree after losing Harry Kane.
Many would have predicted a slump or struggle of some sort, but as of yet, they are showing zero signs of that.
