Tottenham will be without Ivan Perisic for some time after confirmation of the 34-year-old’s ACL injury in his right knee. The club confirmed the blow on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s North London Derby against Arsenal.

The Croatian picked up a complex anterior cruciate ligament injury in training and will require surgery. It’s expected that the experienced winger will miss the majority of the remainder of the season having already played each of the five league games under Ange Postecoglou.

A club statement read: “We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.

The experienced Croatia international sustained the injury in non-contact training and will undergo surgery. Ivan will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.”

Perisic was linked with a move away from Hotspur Way throughout the summer with just one year remaining on his current contract. But with a serious injury ruling him out, it’s unclear whether the former Inter Milan man will play for the north Londoners again.

Last season he played 34 times in the Premier League and made another ten appearances in the Champions League and domestic cups. His minutes this season have drastically decreased due to the return of Destiney Udogie on loan and Pedro Porro’s arrival from Sporting CP.
