Anthony Gordon has kept to his word from his end of season interview where he stated he’d come back to Newcastle United this season fitter and better than ever.

After a difficult start to life at Newcastle, Anthony Gordon made a vow that he’d use the summer to get in better shape to get to the levels that Eddie Howeexpects.

Gordon used the time with England Under 21s to do just that and helped the Young Lions lift the U21 European Championship while scooping the Player of the Tournament award for himself too.

The 22-year-old former Everton man has used the confidence that gave him to carry him through into the new season where he’s looked sharper, faster and better than ever before.

Gordon was a stand-out player against Liverpool on Sunday, scoring the opening goal and having Trent Alexander-Arnold on toast for the majority of the game and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

Alan Brazil and Gabby Agbonlahor were speaking on TalkSPORT about Manchester United‘s £86millionBrazilian star Antony who, a year after joining Man United still seems to be getting up to speed with the Premier League.

Both pundits agreed that Antony could take notes from watching Anthony Gordon play with Alan Brazil saying: “See the way the likes of Gordon for Newcastle attacks full-backs. That’s what you’ve got to do, mix it up, go inside go outside, attack full-backs with pace and speed and he [Antony] doesn’t do it.”

It’s no wonder Eddie Howe pursued Gordon for so long

Agbonlahor agreed adding: “That’s what he done, Gordon. First half he kept going on the outside, this time he used close, fast dribbling, went right inside past Trent and got across him and like you said, Antony doesn’t do that.”

Seeing Gordon gain his confidence back and develop it’s little wonder why Eddie Howe and his recruitment team kept such a close eye on him over the years and why he was so desperate to bring him to Newcastle.

When you’re that good that you can get two pundits who have historically been rather unkind towards Newcastle to not just sing your praises but to hold you up as an example for a Manchester United player to aspire to, you’re doing well.
